10 Best Websites To Sell Your Designs Online

Are you a creative person, and are you looking for ways to sell your designs online? Then you are not alone, actually, there are 1000s of designers that try to do exactly the same. Should that discourage you? Maybe a little, because knowing that you are not alone means you will have a lot of competition.

In order to stand out from the crowd, you have to do something differently, you should create designs that are focused on making sales. I know that sounds boring, but if you only create designs that you like yourself, you are not going to earn much money.

So before you start designing, you have to find out what sells, and what doesn’t. My tips:

  • Do a ton of research, and analyze the designs that are on top. And make similar / better designs as them.
  • Besides research, you should have a unique style that stands out.
  • Also focus on building a large following, that way selling becomes much simpler. Ask your followers what kind of art they like and are willing to buy.
  • Learn about SEO and know that the more people see your designs, the higher the chances you will make money.
  • Don’t expect the one design that you uploaded to sell right away (or ever…)

In the end, you will have to create high-quality art that is in demand and people are willing to pay for. It might take a while to create such art, that is why doing research is important. Believe me, if you just create something without a plan, you will have a very low chance of earning money.

Please note, that this list features a lot of print-on-demand sites, and although I am a fan of those, P.O.D. also has some negative aspects. For example, with most of these websites, you are not in control of your customers. You will have no idea who bought your designs and you have no way of contacting them again. Making it very hard to build a real business, as a real business relies on the fact that you build a relationship with your customers.

In other words, the fact that you cant build an email list and contact your customers means that scaling will be much harder or near impossible.

As soon as you have a design that you think will sell well, here are 10 places you can upload and sell your designs.

Sell your designs online on Amazon Merch

Although I never got accepted to Amazon Merch, I believe it to be a good place to sell your designs online. I say that because I know from other designers that earnings come rather quickly, most likely due to Amazon having billions of users each month.

Meaning, that you can have a ton of sales, just because Amazon receives such huge amounts of traffic. Still, they don’t offer many products, and it will mostly be T-shirts that you will be selling. If that is ok for you then Amazon Merch is definitely worth the try. But keep in mind, that applying for Amazon Merch can take a few months, and there is no guarantee you will be accepted.

Sell your designs online on Society6

Originally society6 focused on selling art prints and wall art, but over the years they have added many products, including T-shirts, bags, bed covers, mats, mugs, pillows, and much more. Society6 receives a lot of monthly traffic and is a popular place for customers to find unique art.

Their products receive good reviews and are of good quality. Personally, I think their website looks good on the outside, but it lacks a lot of features on the back end. For example, you do not have many statistics regarding your designs and products. Often it’s guessing what products do well. Besides that their upload system is a little bulky and could use some improvements.

Making an account on Society6 is free and easy. After that make sure you connect your PayPal account to receive payments. Then all you have to do is start uploading your designs and they will be added to the marketplace within a few minutes.

Sell your designs online on Redbubble

Redbubble is another great website to sell your designs online. Although their website is more pop-Art and illustration-focused, it’s simple to set up your account and upload your designs.

Redbubble also has a ton of visitors each month, so there is always a chance for you to make sales. Make sure you figure out what sells and what keywords to use. That way you can increase your chances of sales.

Just like Society6, Redbubble is a Print-on-Demand site that makes uploading designs onto products very easy. That also means there is a lot of noise and you will have to really create outstanding art in order to make sales.

Sell your designs online on Zazzle

Zazzle is a popular place to go to if you need invitation cards, posters, T-shirts, business cards, stickers, and a ton of other products. They have a unique system that allows users to upload their own photos and text. All you need to do is create templates that others can then customize and buy.

Creating customizable designs is not necessary and depends on your designs. But If you include text or photos in your designs, then adding the option to customize it is a great way to increase your chances of making a sale.

Zazzle offers a huge amount of products. This means you will be able to add 100s of products to your store. In the past, I created a shop that focused mainly on bumper stickers, which did very well. And with the same account, you can create multiple stores, which is a great feature as well.

Sell your designs online on Fine print America

Fine print America is yet another great print-on-demand site that offers a wide range of products, but mostly fine prints like wall art. Over time they added more products, and now you can also sell your designs on Phone cases, apparel, towels, and a wide range of home decor.

Fine print America receives around 6 million+ visitors each month, which is similar compared to society6 which receives a little less than that.

Nonetheless, I know Fine print America is a popular place for shoppers to buy prints and wall art because they offer high-quality products and have many unique artists on the platform.

Sell your designs online on Spreadshirt

Spreadshirt originally started with selling shirts, but over time they added more and more products. Spreadshirt has its own marketplace, and although it’s smaller than many other platforms, it’s still a great place to sell your designs.

They have over 250 products ranging from home decor, and stationary to a wide range of apparel. It’s simple to make an account and upload your art. Spreadshirt receives around 2 million visitors per month, which is lower than most sites on this list, still, it offers a great opportunity to make money on the side.

Printful Print-on-Demand

Printful is another great option to upload your designs, especially if you want to integrate your products with websites like Amazon, Etsy, Shopify, or eBay. Go here to see all websites that you can integrate with at the moment.

Printful makes Print-on-Demand integrations easy, and nobody will know you use Printful to create your products. Which makes your shop look more professional and trustworthy.

Printful has a large collection of products available, from T-shirts, leggings, sweaters, mugs, and pillows, to home decor and living. They have a very advanced design tool to help you create unique designs. The file managing system is also unique, as it let you manage files easily and even connect to Dropbox or Google drive.

Besides this, they have more features like statistics, warehouse management, logo maker, product templates, and more.

Sell your designs online on eBay

With millions of visitors each month, eBay is still a great marketplace to sell your designs online. And with websites that easily integrate with eBay, like Printful, it’s simple to add your own designs and start selling.

Websites like Printful give you the option to sell print-on-demand products directly on eBay. You don’t even need to add your items to eBay, you can work directly from your Printful dashboard. All you have to do is connect eBay with Printful and start creating your products.

If you like to use eBay the old-fashioned way, which means you will create or print your designs yourself, that is great too. This means a little bit more work for you, but your products will be more unique, which might help you sell more easily.

Sell your designs online on Etsy

Etsy is one of the largest marketplaces online, it receives nearly 400 million visitors each month, and people spent on average 5 minutes on the website. Compared to a lot of other marketplaces that are huge numbers. This means Esty gives you plenty of opportunities to build a shop and make sales.

Etsy nowadays offers a wide range of products, from T-shirts to stickers and everything in-between. But Etsy is probably most famous for its many unique handmade items, like bags and accessories.

But you don’t need to sell handmade items. You can also integrate other apps with Etsy, for example, Printful. This allows you to sell your print-on-demand products on Etsy as well. Besides this, you can also offer digital downloads, like printables, books, or templates.

Etsy isn’t totally free to use and you have to pay a little for each listing. But those costs are small compared to the audience that you can promote your designs.

Tee-Spring

Tee-Spring, or now just Spring, is similar to Redbubble or Shopify, yet it doesn’t have a marketplace. This means you will have to find customers yourself. Still, it’s a great place to sell your designs online.

They have the option to add your own domain, creating a unique store that you then can promote either with ads or on social media.

What I like the most about Spring is that I can create discount codes, doing so increases the chances of making sales. Besides this, you can build an email list of customers and reach out to them directly from your Spring dashboard. This is great because most print-on-demand sites do not allow you to contact your customers.

So, if you plan to go bigger and want to stand out from the crowd, then building a business using Spring is a great start. Combine it with marketing and you are much more in control over your own shop than most POD sites.

Conclusion

No matter what platform you use, it’s important to understand that success doesn’t come overnight, it’s a mixture of hard work, commitment, persistence, focus, luck, and a lot of patience. The best advice I can probably give you is that focusing on high-quality and in-demand art and designs is more important than choosing a platform to sell your designs online

Tip. Also create portfolio websites to show your best work and increase the chances of finding customers.

Good luck and have fun designing.
